Dore Stein, Gründer und Produzent von Tangents ist ein DJ aus der “San Francisco Bay Area”, wo alles 1985 begann. Sein wöchentliches Programm wird vom lokalen Radiosender KALW ausgestrahlt und baut Brücken zwischen unterschiedlichsten Musikstilen, von Weltmusik über Roots bis hin zu allerlei kreativen Jazz Varianten.

One of the most creative and versatile programmers in radio, Dore Stein is an advocate for cross-pollinating music. He is producer and host of Tangents, a program that explores the bridges connecting various styles of music, including world and roots music, and creative jazz hybrids.

Most of this Tangents show is a tribute to Lin Brehmer, who was an outstanding radio dj and someone with whom I spent my early years in free-form radio. Lin passed away January 22. Doing this tribute was cathartic for me. Music ranges from the Rolling Stones and Nick Drake to guitarists Jukka Tolonen and Steve Tibbets. Gaza Corner was inspired by International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The program includes a tribute to David Crosby, Cretan music from Daulute Trio and a Year of the Rabbit poem to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Starting in 2023 Tangents has been expanded to 3 hours at its host radio station, KALW. This additional hour enables the reintegration of roots Americana into the opening hour mix.
